Guilty Pleasure Saturday #14

Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games. Did you hear about the teacher in Connecticut who called the cops because she heard people doing a karaoke version of Welcome to the Jungle over the PA and thought she was being threatened? Yeah. I can't stand Guns n' Roses, but I do like this song. You know where you are? You're in the jungle, baby.

Guilty Pleasure Saturday #12

Today is day 1 of 25 days of Niceness, so I'll start with a GPS. I present you with Quiet Riot's "Cum on Feel the Noize." I know B. and Rusty are probably with me on this one. Whenever this comes on in the car I rock out, and I don't care who sees. Unfortunately I can't make fun of the video because that wouldn't be nice. :) QR's lead singer, Kevin DuBrow, was found dead last Sunday at the age of 52.

Guilty Pleasure Saturday #11

This is my second Britney Spears GPS. I guess I shouldn't make fun of L. for liking her. I'm posting this because I think this is Britney Spears's best song (and yes, I realize that's an oxymoron.) I don't know if you've seen the video for her new song (don't bother if you haven't), but current Britney needs to go back and look at past Britney to see that this is how pop is done.

Guilty Pleasure Saturday #10

Umm, yeah. Remember this? Unfortunately I wrote all the GPSs in one sitting and when I ran out I got lazy and didn't do any more. I heard the new Gym Class Heroes song, "Clothes Off," on the radio the other day. It samples Jermaine Stewart's "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off." I have an irrational love for that song. It's such a light breezy, song and it's ironic because of the fact that, as Annoyed pointed out when I mentioned a few months ago that I just realized it was a dude singing the song, Jermaine Stewart died as a result of a disease he contracted presumably while he had his clothes off. I HATE "Cupid's Chokehold" because first of all, you don't mess with Supertramp and second of all, if your boyfriend sings "Breakfast in America" to you, you should probably leave the relationship, yet "CC" is about how awesome his girlfriend is. It's the same ire I feel when people talk about how "The One I Love" is such a great love song. No. It's not. A simple lyric googling goes a long way, people. I don't know about you, but I don't want to be a simple prop to occupy anyone's time. "Clothes Off," on the other hand, rocks my world. I'm not a piece of meat; stimulate my brain:

And just for fun, Gym Class Heroes:

John Denver "Annie's Song"

I realize this song is cheesy, but I also think it's one of the sweetest love songs ever written. I can be a sap sometimes.

Foreigner "Hot Blooded." This is the only video of this song I can find. It's acoustic, which takes a lot of the bite out of the song, but it's still cool as hell. Rusty says that everything has a theme song and an anthem; this is my anthem.

I have a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!

Danzig "Mother"

I don't see anything wrong with liking this song, but apparently other people do, so I suppose it qualifies as a guilty pleasure. Put up your devil horns and rock out.

Michael Jackson "The Lady in My Life"

Sorry about the video, this song was never a single so I couldn't find a real video. This song is so fantastically cheesy, but I love it. It's in my list of the top 10 love songs of all time.

Air Supply "Making Love Out of Nothing At All"

This song is so delightfully cheesy! My parents listen(ed) to crappy music so it's what I grew up on. As a result, I like songs like "Making Love Out of Nothing At All."

Guilty Pleasure Saturday #4

Cheryl Lynn "Got to Be Real." Sorry, B, no 80s hair metal this week!

I never had a second thought about this song until I was watching Season 4 of Sex and the City and the episode The Real Me came on. Carrie (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) is in a fashion show comprised of models and "real people" from New York. She comes out in her glittery underwear and blue coat, strutting down the catwalk to this song, when she falls flat on her face. I can't stand Carrie more of the time, but the moment when she gets up is so triumphant. It struck a chord with me, especially considering some things that were going on in my life at the time, and even though this song has nothing to do with overcoming hardship, that's what I choose to have it mean for me.

Britney Spears "Everytime"

I know, I know. I roll my eyes at L. whenever she makes me listen to a Britney song, but I actually like this one. She can't sing worth shit, but I think this song is pretty. And Stephen Dorff is hot. This is a pretty timely choice considering their shocking divorce. I actually had this saved as a draft 2 weeks ago. Maybe I'm psychic.

Guilty Pleasure Saturday #1

A bunch of my blogging buddies seems to have some sort of weekly feature on their blogs. Rusty has Saturday Hotness (sometimes), March has Forgotten Disc Friday, and Pog has Sucky CD Sunday. I thought I'd join the party with Guilty Pleasure Saturday, which will be a sampling of songs I blast at full-volume when I'm home alone or when I'm in my car and quickly turn down as soon as someone else approaches. Let's start things off with Scorpions "No One Like You."

Since I can't tell this song and "Rock You Like a Hurricane" apart until the verse begins, I wait with bated breath for "Girl, it's been a long time that we've been apart." The verses of this song are ok (my favorite part is the way Klaus Meine pronounces "way"), but the head-banging commences at the drum build-up followed by the oh-so-cheesy hair-metal chorus.

This video has anything a video could need: Alcatraz, sharks, an old-fashioned cigarette holder, a crazy prisoner wearing glasses that appear to be made out of forks who decides to bang a guitar against the wall instead of running away, and a leather-clad blonde in a cage full of fire. Yeah, I don't know either, but they're German so I give them a pass on the ridiculousness.
