Dealbreaker
Here's an article from the New York Times about "dealbreaker" lit. I'm not too much of a book snob because I read some pretty low-brow stuff, but for me, the dealbreaker would be someone who thinks The DaVinci Code is well-written. Or someone who read and followed The Secret. Although that would be more of a life-outlook problem than a literary problem. I'd just be happy to find a man who reads regularly...I don't know any. Do any of you have dealbreakers?

I guess generally it is a gender thing (don't yell men, I know that's a very broad statement, but I've found it to be pretty much true).J. does not read as much as I do, but he reads magazines and the Bible regularly, so it's not like he doesn't read anything. I think for him it's because he has to write a ton at work and read other people's work, so he's probably a little tired of reading by the time he gets home and would rather get lost in ESPN.
HEY! i read every day!!!
Ok, so I know one man who reads regularly :).
I read this article too! Pretty funny -- and absolutely true!
I'd respond but I couldn't bring myself to read all the way to the end of the post. I may not even post this since reading the word verification to even post this comment is stretching my literary appreciation limits. "kkwyphv"? What the hell is that? I mean, there's not one vowel except for that frickin' crossdressin' "y"--like we don't know that in addition to being both vowel and consonant it also moonlights as a chromosome...
I'm going to wait for the movie.
Typical man...
:)
silence
my verification word: oaoaxi
now we know where all the vowels ran off to.
A person who doesn't read is just unattractive. To me, anyway. Dealbreaker? Someone who only reads religious texts or who thinks The Secret had new information in it.
