Ennui

The holidays really got me thinking about how freaking boring my life is. My step-cousin was home from DC where he is a chef at this restaurant; I was at Home Depot and ran into my parents' next-door neighbors and their son, who was home from London for the holidays. Everyone's life is so much more exciting than mine. I guess if you live in those places the novelty wears off, but still. It's not like I'm unhappy here, it's just not exciting. I'm the sort of person who needs a routine, but I wonder what it would be like to have an interesting life and if I'd really like it.

Enough moodiness. I'm reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which will probably be on my list of my favorite books of all time. I can't wait to finish the book so I can watch the movie.

I felt the same way during the holidays. My one sister lives in Singapore and was totally in the spotlight the whole time. Her life is way more exciting than mine.

I feel like unless you are living in Europe, Southeast Asia, or are a celebrity, your life isn't going to be very exciting. The funny thing is, I'm satisfied w/having a simple life! :-)

Well, you know I'm jealous of anyone living in London. I'm sure you are, too.

Looking at the whole picture, though, I'm kind of in the middle on the issue. Some days I just SO wish to be anywhere else but where I am, doing anything other than what I'm doing. But I guess even though my life is boring and kind of sucks, it could be worse. And if I actually WAS in some other place, doing some other thing, I'd probably be wishing to be somewhere else, etc. That's a depressing thought.

I've never read that book or seen the movie. Let me know if it's good, and I'll invite myself over to join you. :) I'll bring the food.

Checking in from Dimville. The ennui-tude is through the roof. Must be the time of year. Usually the ennui-tude in Dimville is only up to the ceiling.

Cuckoo's Nest is fab, by the way. Been awhile since I read it and saw it, but I remember it being great.

Happy New Year, you two!

You all are right. It's the time of the year. I guess life wasn't meant to be exciting. I'd probably get tired of excitement too. I hope you all had a good New Year!

Your life is a thrill-a-minute compared to mine. Think on this: I'm a librarian who knits, and a grandmother to boot! Bring out that old rockin' chair - Granny's ready for it!

Maybe I could spice things up by adopting a pretentious corncob pipe and a pet crow? I could let my hair get all gray and wild. I have a rifle. It's all about the additude, right? :-)

One flew over the cuckoo's nest is a great book, BTW.

What famous author drops acid and throws up on your shoes?

Ken Queasy. :-)

LOL Well, you do fit the stereotype, but you're cool nonetheless! And yes, it is all in the attitude. Gotta love the librarian humor! :)

I need a routine, too. But every now and then I need a short break from the routine. My life is pretty boring, too, but not for long! I hope ...
