Dumb Person Alert
From The Smoking Gun:
OCTOBER 5--An Oregon woman claims that her former doctor prescribed sex with him as a treatment for lower back pain, according to a new lawsuit. In a Circuit Court complaint, an excerpt of which you'll find below, Susan Beach alleges that Randall Smith, an osteopathic physician, told her that there was "a medical need to manipulate a nerve in her vagina to help alleviate her lower back pain." These treatments began in June 2003 and ended seven months later after Beach mentioned the unorthodox care to her dentist, who was alarmed by Smith's behavior. Beach is seeking $4 million in damages from Smith and the medical clinic where he worked. Smith, who has claimed the patient sex was consensual, was stripped of his medical license in April for submitting phony reimbursement claims to the Oregon Health Plan. That criminal scheme cost Smith, pictured in the above mug shot, 60 days in jail.
Yes, it was totally wrong for the doctor to take advantage of that woman, but come on!

Some people have real issues with questioning authority. This is a great example of how some people would rather be obedient than intelligent.
Hahahahaha!
Wow. unfreaking believable.
It's like the Milgram (?)experiment where he had people who thought they were shocking someone when they got an answer wrong. They went up to voltages that would have killed someone were they real.
May I point something out? The Oregon Health Plan has been cut back to the point where only the severely mentally ill or severly handicapped (mental and/or physical) are able to qualify for it anymore. This woman may in fact have been one of those. If it develops into a story that our local news outlets pick up on I'll come back and update if that's the case or not.
Hmmm...I never thought about that.
Okay, so one mini update? The local TV news has picked up the story, and apparently this guy also has a history of harming patients who are rendered unconcious, too. What I wonder won't come out is that he's been predatory for a while now, and this is just the first the public is hearing about it. I'm sure more will come out as the whole story unfolds. I read on those docs you linked to that the woman was being treated for anxiety and depression, but I do wonder if she hadn't had a more serious condition that we just won't read about until the case is fully developed in the media. The Oregon Health Plan is a wonderful program, but the funding hits it has taken are such that only those in extreme needs are receiving help from it anymore.
Gah, I can't spell. Or type. *Sigh*
Thanks for the update! Let us know how it turns out!
