The Ravages of Croatia?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Don't get me wrong--Goran Visnjic is a beautiful man--but he's more than a decade younger than I thought he was. I thought he was in his mid 40s and Chris thought he was in his 40s or 50s. He just turned 33.

He does bring the pretty!

It's 39 degrees outside right now. Booo!

Movie Recommendation

The other week I watched Election, and it was really good! It's a great satire of high school government and high school life in general, both for teachers and students. I'm not a huge fan of Reese Witherspoon, but she was good in this movie, and I'll always love Matthew Broderick. I actually laughed out loud while watching it by myself, which is something I rarely do. I liked it much better than Rushmore and would strongly recommend it. Check out a review from someone who writes them much better than I.

Something Else I Don't Get

Companies make "tagless" shirts, and advertise the fact that the shirt is tagless, but all they do is put the tag on the side seam instead. I don't know about anyone else, but a tag on the side seam bothers me a million times more than a tag at the back of the neck.

What I Did This Weekend

On Saturday, MR and I went to Michael's where I spent way too much money. I got the stuff to make this wreath (among many other things):

MR, Liz, and I had an awesome dinner at Red Lobster, even though we had to wait forever.

This morning I was excited because Sudoku is now in our paper! My addiction can live on!

Today Chris and I went to the Baltimore Zoo, which happens to be right in the middle of the ghetto:

We saw cute animals:

Then we came home!

Upon our return home I learned that I don't like eggplant. I tried to make fried eggplant and it was pretty nasty. 95% of the nastiness was my fault, but I didn't like the taste anyway. I tried to redeem it by melting some parmesan cheese on it, but that actually made it worse.

I Don't Get It

This week my grocery store is running a special on pregnancy tests: Buy 1, Get 1 Free. Is it just me, or does that make no sense?

Motorcycle Asshattery

Tonight is bike night York (the Harley Davidson plant is here) and the roads have been taken over by bikes. There was an accident on the highway, so there was a huge line of cars waiting to get on at the onramp. Some guy on a bike goes riding past everyone waiting in line and cuts right in front. Someone should have hit him. Then I passed a guy on the highway with his arms in the air in a "V." We used to do that on our bikes, but we weren't going 70 MPH and on an interstate. Dumb people.

The Apprenti

I loved Martha Stewart Apprentice! I felt that she was more personable towards the candidates, and I know I'm going to like her challenges so much better than The Donald's. Last night they wrote and published a children's book. Tonight The Donald has them making a fitness class at Bally's. The Donald had them do a running race to his helicopter. The hell? I think he just enjoys the fact that he can make executives with six-figure incomes run to his helicopter. I know I would if I were in his position :-).

I love, love, love what Martha said in the preview: "There's no crying in business, my dear." You tell 'em Martha!

Hee! at George watching women work out.

I probably won't get to watch Donald's Apprentice too much since I work late on Thursdays, but I won't be missing Martha's.

Now I just have to decide if I should stay up for ER.

My Favorite Book is...Magazines!

And my hobby is diabetes. Sorry, Simpsons reference. I promised to reward myself for quitting smoking (it has been more than 1 week, by the way), and it seems like one of my rewards is going to be magazines. I talked last week about ordering Real Simple (which rocks!) and People. Today I ordered Everyday Food, one of Martha Stewart's magazines. My mom used to get that from the library, and it had gorgeous food photography (it is Martha Stewart after all) and had good, realistic recipes. I looked at the online preview and there were at least 5 things I would actually make. I deserve it, dammit! Now I just have to work on not eating everything in sight. That is definitely one of the downfalls of quitting.

It's a Good Thing

I'm psyched for Martha Stewart's Apprentice tonight. She is my idol. If I could afford it, I would stay at home making my own sweaters from the wool of sheep that I raised myself, decorating cakes to look like elaborate chickens, and slaughtering my own cows to make steak tartar. Plus, she's a big bitch, which is awesome. I heard her catchphrase is going to be, "You just don't fit in here." Meow!

I'll give The Donald one more chance. I watched the first 2 seasons, but I could only stand about 2 episodes of the last season.

Arrested Development was awesome Monday night, as usual. Kitchen Confidential looks promising; I think I'll give it a few more chances before I totally write it off. It's from Darren Star, who did Sex and the City, so it should be pretty decent.

The Office was funny last night, but I don't think it was as funny as it was last year. I'll have to get the UK version from Netflix, because I know that a lot of fans of the UK version loathe the US version.

Eeeek!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

What the hell?! Seriously? And just who in God's name is Tess Smith?! She's not even on the imdb. I did find a mention of her being a screenwriter, but everyone and his brother who has been even remotely been involved in movies/tv/music has an imdb page. I guess she did what she set out to accomplish; to be a total and complete camera whore with no regard for decency. She doesn't even look that good; just kind of creepy. Not that I would look better, but still. You'd have to pay me massive amounts of money to go out of the house looking like that!

On Being a Homebody

I don't understand why being a homebody is considered a bad thing. I suppose it's bad if it borders on agoraphobia, but I see nothing wrong with preferring a night at home watching a movie to going out to a hot, sweaty, loud club and paying more for one mixed drink than I would pay for the whole bottle at the liquor store. Not that I would be content to sit at home every night and never go anywhere, but I have everything at home I could possibly need, and I am more comfortable there than anywhere else. I guess I can chalk my preference up to being cheap, lazy, and easily annoyed by people.

I'm so happy that fall is almost here. I never liked fall that much because it meant that school was starting again, but now that I work year-round, I can truly appreciate it. I can even tolerate the cold as long as it's mild and it only occurs in the morning and at night. I'll be happy to say good-bye to 80% humidity.

How I Live My Life

How You Life Your Life
You seem to be straight forward, but you keep a lot inside. You are always tactful and diplomatic. You let people down gently.Your friends tend to be a as quirky as you are - which is saying a lot!You tend to always dream of things within reach - and you usually get them.

A Case of the Mondays

This is going to be one of those days. First of all, I woke up at 6:48, and I should technically leave my house around 7:15. I got out of the house at around 7:32, which was ok because traffic wasn't too bad today. I did manage to drop a frozen bottle of water on my toe though. Then no one would let me out of my driveway, even though I was sitting there WELL before any of them were in line at the light. Then I had the obligatory people driving 60 in a 65. I'm about to fall asleep even though I got a good amount of sleep last night. Mondays suck!

Don't forget to watch the season premier of Arrested Development tonight!

TGIF!

Another boring day. I swear I had something to write about, but now I totally forgot. After spending the vast majority of my morning reading "Real Simple," a magazine we had in our waiting room, I decided to subscribe. It's pretty neat, and it's only about $28 for 12 issues. I also recently resubscribed to People magazine because they offered me the "student rate" which is like, $20 for 6 months. I didn't have the heart to inform them that I haven't been a student in over 2 years. I love People, but I refused to resubscribe when the shortest amount of time they would let me resubscribe for was 1 year. I didn't have $150 lying around to subscribe to People. $20 is doable though.

Some woman called me to set up an appointment, and when I told her how much it would be since we didn't take her insurance, she said, "Hell no!" and hung up on me. Why do some people not have any sense of common courtesy?

I'm having a Tastefully Simple party tonight since MR is a consultant, and tomorrow I'm going to clean out the inside of my car really well in honor of not stinking it and ashing it up anymore. Then MR and I are going to the York Fair in the afternoon. The York Fair is wonderful people watching. I'll try to remember to bring my camera so you all can see the quality of people at this thing. I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Edit 3:23 P.M. Not more than 5 minutes after posting this, I get a spam comment on it, so I'm going to turn on word verification. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Quitting

Arghh! I haven't smoked in about 27 hours, and the ONLY thing I can think of is cigarettes. And it's not helping that Chris has a bunch of packs of cigarettes sitting on the table. I can do this though; besides, I already saved $40 by not going out to get a carton yesterday.

Your 80s Heartthrob Is

Who's Your 80's Heartthrob?

Hee! I heart Jason Bateman, and I had the hugest crush on him in Teen Wolf 2.

My Parents Kick All Kinds of Ass

I'm feeling a little better, so I thought I'd write a post about how much my parents kick ass. She called me Sunday morning and I was crying because I felt like complete crap, so she offered to come over. She brought me lunch, she cleaned up my kitchen, did some laundry, did my dishes, and went to the grocery store for me where she not only bought the stuff I had on my list, but she also got me some steaks and People magazine. I was pissed because I spent $50 on my prescription and didn't even take any of it, so she gave me $50. I was able to return my script, so I gave her her $50 back, but she told me to keep it to buy clothes. My mommy knows I'm po'. She offered to come all the way out here to drive me to the doctor's, which is only 5 minutes away from their house, but I declined.

We had a big pile of dirt in our backyard that our landlord was supposed to get rid of and plant grass. He finally got rid of the dirt, but no grass. So my dad came over and pulled the weeds and leveled the ground so he can plant grass when it finally rains. He kinda ruined it by waking me up from a Benadryl-induced haze to ask me how to clear the cookies on his computer. Dads...

I also have to holla at Shout wipes. We ate at Applebee's on Saturday night and as I was dipping my steak into A1, it slid off the plate and onto my shirt. I'm not just talking a little spot; I'm talking massive amounts of A1. My mom had Shout wipes in her purse, and it got 95% of it out. As soon as I got home I soaked it in Tide. I don't know what my mom did because I was passed out, but she somehow got the other 5% of it out. If you're a tard like me who can't eat without spilling, get the Shout wipes.

Sick Leave

I've come down with a horrible case of hives from some new medication I was taking, so my posting on here has been and will be a little sporadic for a few days. I'll be back to my regular posting when I'm itch-free! I hope everyone is doing well!

And I Thought I Had No Life

I went to a Quick 6 place tonight to grab a six-pack and there were a bunch of rednecks hanging out drinking by the cashier. It's not even a bar; it's just a convenience store. I think that's a little sad. The one guy had his arm up on the beer cooler whilst hitting on some woman. He had a massive pit stain. I don't think she was the type who would be turned off by that. They also had a "Meat Snacks Station." Yum.

I got my mums. I got a white one and a maroon one. They're pretty.

The Things That Make You Go Hmmm...

I just read a story on AOL about a man who won a contest to get a convicted spammer's money and his Hummer. They gave his name and his hometown. Call me paranoid, but I don't think I'd want to win a contest where the prize was a convicted felon's stuff.

Ewww...80s! Remember these? We never had this one. We had one that was bright yellow with blue trim and said "Keystone State."

I hate the web address on the bottom of the current ones.

Hee! How cute is that!?

3 Packs To Go

You know, I don't think this is going to be that difficult. I've majorly cut down, and I'm not having much of a problem. I think for me the problem will be more passing the time than the actual physical addiction. I put dinner in the oven yesterday and didn't know what to do while I waited for it to cook besides smoke. What the hell do you non-smokers do to waste 7 minutes? I think I might start cross-stitching again, because that will keep my hands occupied. I'll probably try to read more too.

I threw away my spring/summer potted plants that were on the front porch (and that I hadn't watered in a very long time) and am prepared to get some mums. I love fall now that I'm not in school anymore. The only thing that sucks is that I was taking care of those plants at 7:30, and it was already starting to get dark. Booo!!

Even though fall is cool, it brings winter, which I hate!! I don't mind it before the holidays, but January, February, and March suck here! At least my days of freezing my ass off for the sake of a nicotine fix will be over (hopefully!). I was at a department store last Saturday, and they were putting up Christmas trees. What the hell?! By the time Christmas gets here, I'm sick of it. I have to do my Christmas shopping. I always get it done early because being in the stores when they're so crowded makes me want to go into a murderous rage.

It's Time

Because I am po', I am going to try to quit smoking. If I do, I'll save more than $120 per month, or $1440 per year. It's going to be hard though, and I pity the fool who pisses me off during this ordeal. I have about 5 packs left from my carton, but after that, I'm done. The hardest time will be when I'm sitting around, doing nothing. I use smoking to pass the time. I'm going to have to stock up on gum and lollipops when I go to the store this week. Wish me luck!

A-Ha

Not the band, although "Take On Me" is an awesome song. I opened my mom's refrigerator and she had a jar of hot fudge in there that was the same brand as that truck I saw the other day.

Shut Up, Kanye West

Edit 12:03. I am not going to link to this story because everytime I do it goes to a story about Iran saving cheetas. Government conspiracy? I must don my tinfoil hat! If you want to know, just google Kanye West.

What a tool. I'm not defending George Bush, because he's a tool of massive proportions as well, but what a load of crap. Way to turn a benefit concert into being all about you, Kanye. What are you trying to achieve? If you want to pontificate about the state of the country, do it on your own website or on your album so that people who don't give a rat's ass about your opinion don't have to be exposed to it.

Yes, most of the victims appear to be black, but I would venture a guess that the vast majority of the non-tourist population of New Orleans is black. In a predominately black area, wouldn't it stand to reason that most of the victims would be black? It's not George Bush's fault that the city was unprepared and the levee broke because it wasn't maintained. That's why we have local government. George Bush can't be responsible for every problem everywhere (refraining from doing anti-Bush rant).

I know there has been a lot of talk lately about the media bias towards the victims, but that is the fault of the media. George Bush didn't write those captions. If he had they would have read, "2 pepul walkificate down the street. The street is wetified. The pepul are ingageing in the carriation of bred. I like bred." While it's wrong to call white people carrying food, "finding food" while calling black people doing the same thing looting, it is wrong for people to be breaking into businesses stealing TVs and things like that. I can totally understand stealing food, but there is no excuse for stealing anything else. What the hell are you going to do with a TV right now anyway?

I hate the race card, I hate people who spout off opinions that aren't based in fact, I hate people who haven't grasped the concept of there being a time and a place for everything, and I now hate Kanye West, even though I couldn't name one of his songs if my life depended on it. Celebrities need to stop ranting about things that they know nothing about, and people need to stop taking celebrities' opinions as gospel. If one good thing did come out of this, it was the fact that Mike Myers's "awkward!" look is now a classic TV moment.

But enough about that. I wanted to share some pictures from the paper this morning. The first picture is of a cop directing traffic near the York County food bank. Notice the huge line of cars. The second is the parking lot of the food bank. It warms my heart to see so many people helping.

Wha?

This morning on my way to work, I passed an 18-wheeler that said "Large Sundae Cherries" or something to that effect on the side with a picture of a cherry dancing. Is there really that huge of a demand for large sundae cherries that an 18-wheeler is necessary to haul them? I could understand if it was a bunch of different kinds of sundae toppings, but this was just cherries. Large ones, no less!
